| Abstract: Ankylosis of primary molars is a relatively common eruption anomaly that can significantly affect occlusal development and arch integrity. Early diagnosis is essential to anticipate potential consequences, including infraocclusion, tipping of adjacent teeth, loss of arch length, and disturbances in vertical dimension. Ankylosis may also occur in conjunction with other dental anomalies. This lecture examines the clinical and radiographic features of ankylosed primary molars, diagnostic methods, and potential sequelae. Evidence-based management strategies will be discussed, such as careful observation, restorative build-ups, maintenance of arch perimeter, preservation of occlusal height, and timely extraction when appropriate. The necessity of individualized treatment planning based on associated malocclusion, growth stage, and severity will be highlighted. |
