| Abstract: Interceptive orthodontics remains one of the most debated areas in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics. While early treatment can be highly beneficial in selected clinical situations—such as posterior crossbite, functional shifts, eruption disturbances, and severe skeletal discrepancies—its indiscriminate use is not supported by strong scientific evidence. This presentation reviews the current evidence regarding early orthodontic intervention and discusses the biological principles that should guide clinical decision-making. It also explores emerging technologies that are beginning to transform orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning, including artificial intelligence–assisted diagnostics, digital growth prediction, remote monitoring, and the use of aligners in the mixed dentition. Finally, the lecture proposes a future model of interceptive orthodontic care that integrates evidence-based protocols with technological innovations to support more predictive, preventive, and personalized treatment strategies for growing patients. |
