| Abstract: Like their unaffected peers, children and adolescents with congenital or acquired craniofacial conditions may benefit from interceptive orthodontic treatment to improve appearance, oral health, function and/or self-esteem. This presentation distills 30 years of clinical experience providing orthodontic and pediatric dental care to patients with cleft lip and palate, craniofacial microsomia, segmental overgrowth conditions, orofacial trauma, and survivors of childhood cancer. Dr. Sheller will review challenges, successes, and disappointments while suggesting a practical and evidence-based approach to interceptive orthodontic planning and treatment for these complex patients. |
