| Abstract: Posterior crossbite is one of the most prevalent transversal anomalies in early dentition, with a frequency ranging from 8% to 22%. Unlike other malocclusions, it rarely self-corrects. Left untreated, it can lead to permanent skeletal asymmetries, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, and unbalanced facial growth patterns. This lecture aims to review current scientific evidence to determine the ideal timing and the most effective protocols for maxillary expansion, focusing on differential diagnosis, appliance analysis, activation protocols and retention. |
