Dr. Letizia Perillo is Full Professor and Head of the Department of Multidisciplinary Medical-Surgical and Dental Specialties, as well as Head of the Orthodontic Unit, at the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli in Naples, Italy.
She is Past Dean of the School of Dentistry and former Chair of the NEBEOP Postgraduate Orthodontic Program at the same university. Prof. Perillo also serves as Visiting Professor at the University of Alexandria, Egypt, and at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA.
She is currently President of the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO) and has previously served as President of both the Italian Society of Orthodontics (SIDO) and the Mediterranean Orthodontic Integration Project (MOIP).
Prof. Perillo is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the AAO, EHASO, EOS, SIDO, MOIP, SIOCMF, and the Charles H. Tweed Foundation, and serves on the editorial boards of several international scientific journals.
She received her degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1986 and completed her specialization in Orthodontics in 1989 at the University of Naples Federico II. She subsequently undertook advanced orthodontic training as a fellow at the University of Michigan in 1993 and earned a PhD in Interceptive Orthodontics from the University of Florence in 1997.
Prof. Perillo is the author of approximately 300 scientific publications, as well as 9 books and 10 book chapters. She has been an invited speaker at international congresses in more than 30 countries.
Her main research interests include early orthodontic treatment, non-extraction therapy, dentofacial orthopedics, cleft lip and palate, and genetics.
