Nicola Innes

Prof. Nicola Innes originally qualified as a Registered General Nurse, then gained a BSc in Life Sciences followed by an intercalated BMSc in Cellular/Molecular Pathology and BDS (hons). She spent seven years as a General Dentist and completed a PhD investigating the Hall Technique.

Her work is focused on improving the way we manage the disease dental caries: how can we be less invasive, how can we make it easier for people (especially children) to cope with, how can we make dental care more effective, affordable and accessible. Prof Innes mainly works on clinical trials and systematic reviews. Her nursing and dentistry background has given her a very patient-focused outlook. Her research (>£6M grant capture, >75 peer reviewed publications) is mainly cariology (minimal intervention), pediatric (Child Friendly) dentistry, marginalized communities and it has an educational focus.
